About Ohio ACTE
About Career, Technical and Adult Education
Every high school student in Ohio has the opportunity to participate in a career technical program, whether it is through classes offered in their own school system, through partnerships with other schools or at a career technical center in their communicty (sometimes called vocational centers).
Most career centers also offer programs for adults, so that adults in the community can take advantage of programs, learn a new skill, expand their knowledge and earn more in the workforce.
Today, a majority of students who attend a career-technical program also further their education by attending a two-year or four year program in their area of study. They start these programs with added knowledge and skills obtained through their career-technical education.
Career technical education also offers specialized programs designed for special needs students or students who desire more career-based education in order to remain in school.
