The Ohio STEM Equity Pipeline was first started in 2009 through The National Alliance for Partnerships in Equity (NAPE) with funding from The National Science Foundation (NSF).   From 2011 to 2015, this work was expanded to 17 additional projects around the state of Ohio through funding from The Office of Career-Technical Education at Ohio Department of Education, and in partnership with Columbus State Community College and NAPE.  14 teams of secondary CTE educators and their education and business and industry partners were trained using NAPE’s Program Improvement Process for Equity in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (PIPE-STEM™).  Each of those teams is now implementing evidence- and research-based strategies to increase the participation, persistence, and completion of diverse students in nontraditional CTE programs.  Second, three teams of teachers and counselors were trained in NAPE’s Micromessaging to Reach and Teach Every Student™ Program, including a team of middle school educators.  These colleagues are now implementing strategies to increase the success of diverse females and under-represented males in the STEM classroom.  Finally, over 120 counselors from throughout the state were provided NAPE’s Counselor Toolkits and trained on their use so that they could provide relevant and useful information to middle school and high school students on opportunities through nontraditional and STEM careers. More is planned for 2015 and beyond!

Participants in this workshop will receive updates on these exciting projects; learn from peers about effective practices and programs being implemented throughout the state; and receive updates on plans for the coming year(s). Participants will also have the opportunity to network with other professionals who are dedicated to student access, educational equity, and workforce diversity in career-technical and STEM education.
